A study room or home office is a quiet place to work, study or take video calls. Its design is about four things: a desk at the right height, a comfortable chair, enough storage for books and files, and good light that does not glare on the screen.
Short answer: if you have little space, a wall-mounted or corner desk works in any bedroom. If you have a spare room, built-in shelves turn it into a proper study, and a sofa-cum-bed lets it double as a guest room. Below are 6 themes with a picture of each.

How to choose your study room design
- Measure the space. A wall desk needs very little room; a corner desk or built-in shelves need a full wall or corner.
- Plan the light. Put the desk where daylight comes from the side, not from behind the screen, and add a task lamp.
- Plan sockets and wiring. Laptop, monitor, router and charger points near the desk avoid wires on the floor. See our electrical points guide.
- Choose a good chair. It matters more than the desk for long hours.
- Decide if the room has a second use. If guests stay sometimes, plan a sofa-cum-bed from the start.
